Andy Gillis, Yacht Broker

Andy has been sailing and boating since he was six. From his early years sailing on Raritan Bay, NJ and Long Island Sound with his family, to ICW Norfolk/Key West/ SWFL voyages, Andy has sailing in his blood! In college he was an active sailor and was captain of the sailing team at Christopher Newport College - now CNU, in Newport News VA. After college, he raced one-design Flying Scot sailboats, was a part-time Flying Scot factory representative, and promoted the boat in Southeast Virginia. Later he purchased and restored a 1968 24' Morgan sailboat, and actively raced and cruised the lower Chesapeake Bay. Many good days were spent sailing the York River and Back Creek. He sailed the Morgan to Florida several times and then moved up to a 31' Eastward Ho sailboat. He lived aboard for six years.

With his strong business sales background, Andy understands that listening is a very important attribute to understand how to best help a client. After graduating from college, he worked for several leading electrical wholesale suppliers as a sales representative, then moved to a successful career in heavy construction equipment rental/sales -  including aerial lifts and forklifts - in the Newport News/Norfolk VA market.

As a USCG 100 ton Master with a sailing and towing endorsement, he has worked many years operating tour & charter boats, a fishing/whale watch vessel, water taxis, launches, supply boat w/ barge, and a variety of sailboats and yachts. Knowing how the different vessels handle and perform in different types of seas and weather conditions is important experience which he can share with you.

Relocating to Fort Myers in 2003 to enjoy the Florida sunshine, he became a marine electronics tech and continued sailing and racing in the local waters of Southwest Florida. He feels that his extensive nautical background is an important part of what makes him a good yacht broker. This experience, along with his knowledge of the current market conditions has made Andy a highly respected yacht broker throughout the Southwest Florida area.
